Despite Three Golden Buzzer Acts on the AGT Premiere, One Performer’s Scary Knife-Throwing Story Stole the Spotlight

America’s Got Talent returned for its Season 21 premiere with a high-energy episode that featured several standout auditions, emotional moments, and three Golden Buzzer winners heading straight to the live shows. Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel, and Mel B took their places at the judges’ table as the NBC competition launched its 2026 run, and the opening night quickly delivered the kind of buzzer-filled drama the series is known for.
Among the most memorable auditions were knife-throwers Tyrone and Margo, whose act was made even more intense by the fact that they performed while aiming at each other in motion. Margo had to dodge knives at remarkable speed, while Tyrone handled crossbow elements in the dangerous routine. The judges were visibly stunned by the performance, but the act became even more striking after Cowell asked whether anything had ever gone wrong during their stunts.
Tyrone then revealed a painful accident from two years ago during a live show, saying that one of the knives struck Margo in the face and became lodged in her eye. The moment left the judges speechless. Mel B and Sofia Vergara, in particular, had strong reactions as the couple described the aftermath of the accident. Margo explained that she is now using only one eye because her second eye recovered only partially, at about 30 percent. The emotional account added a sobering layer to the act and underscored the real risks involved in their performance.
Despite the frightening backstory, Tyrone and Margo earned a “yes” from all four judges, keeping them in the competition and setting the stage for a possible return in later rounds. Their audition stood out not only for the danger onstage, but also for the couple’s determination to keep performing after such a serious injury.
The premiere also featured three Golden Buzzer moments. Fourteen-year-old singer Lai Noelle impressed the judges with a powerful vocal performance that sounded very different from her speaking voice, prompting Cowell to seize the moment and press the Golden Buzzer before Sofia Vergara could do it herself. Terry Crews then hit the Golden Buzzer for Acro Crew, whose acrobatic routine included dogs and drew major praise for creativity and skill. Later, Howie Mandel awarded his Golden Buzzer to rapper Luke Taleno, who had once told Cowell from the audience that he would return one day to earn that exact honor.
With emotional storytelling, risky performances, and several early breakout acts, the Season 21 premiere gave America’s Got Talent a strong start. The next round of auditions airs Tuesday, June 9, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, with episodes available to stream the following day on Peacock.
