How to Watch Portland Fire vs. New York Liberty: TV Channel, Live Stream Info for Today’s WNBA Game
The Portland Fire and New York Liberty meet Monday night in Brooklyn in the third and final matchup between the teams over a 14-day span, with both clubs entering at 3-3. The game at Barclays Center tips at 8 p.m. ET and will stream on Peacock, with NBCSN carrying the broadcast.
Portland, an expansion franchise, earned its first win in team history against New York on May 12 and has since shown the ability to compete in close games. The Fire are coming off a 99-80 win over the Toronto Tempo on Saturday and previously edged the Liberty 98-96 and the Connecticut Sun 83-82. Their three losses have each come by at least 15 points, highlighting a split between their competitive wins and more one-sided defeats.
Offense has been the key issue in Portland’s losses. In a 90-73 setback to the Indiana Fever on Wednesday, the Fire shot just 3 of 16 from 3-point range and matched a season low with three offensive rebounds. Head coach Alex Sarama said the team needs to generate more on the glass and create additional offense, noting that recent efforts to improve crash rate have not yet translated consistently into results.
New York, meanwhile, is trying to steady itself after a disappointing home loss to Dallas on Sunday. The Liberty fell 91-76, dropping to .500 despite entering the season as championship favorites. The defeat came on the same day Sabrina Ionescu returned from a left foot injury that had sidelined her for the first five games. In her season debut, Ionescu recorded 11 points and seven assists on 4-for-15 shooting. Satou Sabally added 20 points after missing the first four games following her offseason arrival.
The matchup also marks the third game of a seven-game homestand for New York, its longest of the season. With both teams sitting at .500, the contest offers an important opportunity to build momentum early in the WNBA season. For Portland, another win over the Liberty would reinforce its strong start as an expansion team and continue one of the league’s more surprising early narratives. For New York, a bounce-back performance would help calm concerns after an uneven opening stretch and begin to justify preseason expectations.
Portland’s start has placed it in rare company. The Fire have become just the fourth WNBA expansion team to begin a season 3-3 or better through six games, joining the Minnesota Lynx in 1999, the Orlando Miracle in 1999 and the Toronto Tempo this year.
The game is part of NBCSN and Peacock’s WNBA coverage, which includes nationally televised regular-season games and selected playoff matchups. Peacock’s WNBA broadcast team features Sue Bird and Cheryl Miller as studio analysts, Maria Taylor and LaChina Robinson as studio hosts, and Noah Eagle, Zora Stephenson and Michael Grady among the play-by-play voices.
