11U 57s battle through weather on Local Sports Live
Rain delays and soggy conditions did not stop the Swift Current 11U AAA 57’s on Sunday as they earned a split against the Regina Athletics in a rain-soaked doubleheader. After dropping the opener 13-9, Swift Current bounced back with a 14-8 win in the second game, powered by a six-run fourth inning that helped them pull away.
The team’s response after the first game was a clear focus. Players said the key was resetting mentally, coming out with a strong warm-up, and keeping a positive attitude. Logan Langan said the group had improved after the opening loss and needed to stay locked in when the rain intensified. Harrison Lasiuk echoed that approach, stressing the importance of starting with a good warm-up and the right mindset.
Swift Current’s offense stayed productive throughout the second game, but the fourth inning became the turning point. Axton Murdoch delivered a bases-loaded hit during the rally, and Lasiuk added another important hit as the 57’s opened up a decisive lead. The team credited consistent contact, plate discipline, and mental focus for the big inning.
Weather conditions made the contest difficult from start to finish. Rain repeatedly interrupted play, and the wet mound created challenges for pitchers trying to throw cleanly. Even so, the 57’s stayed composed during the delays and were able to keep their momentum once play resumed.
Defensively, Swift Current limited further damage after the offensive outburst, helping secure the win and a split on the day. Beckett Collins earned the victory on the mound as the team wrapped up a tough weekend with a 1-3 overall record.
Despite the mixed results, the 57’s saw signs of progress. The team had already shown its potential earlier in the season by winning the 2026 Legasse AAA Tournament, and Sunday’s comeback effort added another positive moment to build on. Players said continued improvement will depend on the small details, including solid glove work, communication, and knowing where each play is going.
For Swift Current, the day was about more than just surviving the weather. It was a chance to respond after adversity, show resilience, and prove they can compete even in difficult conditions. The win over Regina gave the 57’s something to take forward as they work toward greater consistency for the rest of the season.
