When Will Obsession Be Available to Stream? Projected Release Date

Curry Barker’s horror film Obsession has emerged as a breakout title among cinephiles after premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and opening in U.S. theaters in May 2026. Distributed by Focus Features, the movie has drawn strong attention for its unsettling premise, emotional tension, and themes that extend beyond supernatural horror into questions of consent and the dangers of unchecked longing.

The story centers on Baron “Bear” Bailey, a man who has carried a long-standing crush on his childhood friend and coworker, Nikki Freeman. In an attempt to win her affection, Bear buys a novelty “One Wish Willow” gift and makes a fateful wish for Nikki to love him “more than anything in the world.” The wish, however, produces a horrifying result, transforming Nikki into someone — or something — Bear can no longer understand or control. What begins as an expression of desire becomes a nightmare about obsession and its consequences.

Following its theatrical release, Obsession received positive reviews, with critics particularly praising the performance of Inde Navarette, who plays Nikki. Her eerie and unsettling portrayal has been highlighted as one of the film’s standout elements. Michael Johnston stars as Bear, bringing to life the character whose desperation drives the central conflict. The cast also includes Cooper Tomlinson as Ian, Megan Lawless as Sarah Harper, Andy Richter as Carter Harper, Haley Fitzgerald as Viola, Darin Toonder as Harry, and director Curry Barker in a supporting cameo as the “One Wish Willow” customer service agent.

Navarette is already known for her role as Sarah Cushing in Superman & Lois, while Johnston is recognized for playing Corey Bryant in Teen Wolf. Their involvement has helped bring additional attention to the project, which is now being discussed as one of the more notable recent genre releases to come out of Focus Features.

As for home viewing, the film has not yet received an official streaming release date. Based on the distributor’s typical pattern, Focus Features titles often eventually arrive on Peacock after their theatrical runs, though the timing can vary. For Obsession, that likely means viewers will need to wait a few months before it becomes available for streaming. At this stage, a late 2026 streaming debut appears likely, though no date has been formally announced.

With its psychological horror premise, unsettling transformation, and themes rooted in desire and control, Obsession has quickly become one of the more talked-about horror films of 2026. Its theatrical momentum and critical buzz suggest that interest in the film will continue well beyond its initial release window, especially once it becomes available to stream at home.
