Helen Mirren Addresses Tom Hardy MobLand Rumors for the First Time

Helen Mirren has dismissed rumors of a feud with her MobLand costar Tom Hardy, following reports that Hardy had been fired from the series after alleged clashes on set. Mirren appeared to address the speculation in a May 28 Instagram post, writing, “Love you now and always, Helen,” over a close-up image of Hardy. The message was widely seen as a subtle show of support and a quiet rejection of claims that the two actors were at odds.
The rumors began after Puck reported that Hardy had been let go from MobLand after production on Season 2 wrapped. The report prompted further speculation about tension behind the scenes, including claims from an insider quoted by The Hollywood Reporter that Hardy had kept cast and crew waiting, describing the behavior as a “power play.” The same report suggested that delays and frustrations on set may have contributed to the narrative of conflict involving Hardy and his colleagues.
Those claims have since been challenged by multiple outlets and sources close to the production. According to a newer Variety report, the situation is not as final as early headlines suggested. The outlet said that the door remains open for Hardy to return for Season 3 and that discussions are ongoing from a creative standpoint. This raised the possibility that the earlier reports of a firing may have overstated the situation.
Variety also reported that while Hardy’s lateness did frustrate Mirren, the two actors do not have a personal feud. A source told the outlet that Mirren had occasionally urged Hardy to move things along on set, but never seemed hostile toward him. The source said she was not anti-Hardy and had merely been direct in a professional environment where delays can affect the whole production.
The same report also pushed back on another layer of rumor: the suggestion that the alleged tension between Mirren and Hardy had anything to do with political differences. One source rejected that idea outright, saying they had never heard of any political conflict and describing such claims as unhelpful and untrue. Another insider described Mirren as someone unlikely to take part in a political standoff or refuse to return to a project because of a co-star.
Mirren had already shown public support for Hardy months earlier. In December 2025, after the Daily Mail reported that a “real-life personal battle” was taking place between the two stars because of Hardy’s lateness, Mirren posted a playful Instagram tribute to him. Along with a blurry photo of Hardy, she listed several things she loved about him, including his on-screen brilliance, his off-screen dedication, his good heart, and the “HardyHugs” she receives on set.
Taken together, the more recent reports suggest that the story is less about a feud and more about the typical pressures of a high-profile production. While there may have been frustration over time and scheduling, the public messages from Mirren and the latest reporting indicate that the relationship between the two stars remains respectful and largely intact.
