Kasol Firing: Tourist Shoots Local Youth After Parking Dispute; 4 Arrested in Himachal Pradesh

A parking dispute in Kasol, a popular tourist market in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district, escalated into a violent confrontation on May 30, 2026, leaving a local youth injured after a tourist allegedly opened fire during a clash with local residents. According to police, the argument began over vehicle parking in the crowded Kasol market and soon turned into a physical altercation after a verbal exchange between a group of tourists and local youths. The firing caused panic in the busy tourist area, with shopkeepers, visitors and residents rushing to safety as the situation unfolded in public view.

The injured youth was taken to a hospital for treatment, while videos from the scene spread rapidly on social media and drew widespread attention. The footage reportedly shows an armed tourist walking through the market and brandishing a pistol moments after the shooting, deepening fear among people in the area. Witnesses said the man continued to wave the weapon openly for some time before companions intervened and pulled him away. The viral clips have sparked outrage and renewed concern about rising tensions in tourist hotspots where minor disputes can quickly turn dangerous.

Police responded swiftly after receiving information about the firing and launched an operation to trace those involved. Four accused were arrested in connection with the incident, and officers recovered the pistol allegedly used in the shooting. The vehicle linked to the suspects was also seized during the operation. Authorities said the quick action prevented the accused from escaping and allowed investigators to begin questioning them soon after the incident.

Kullu Superintendent of Police Madan Lal Kaushal confirmed that the case began with a parking dispute in Kasol and said that police had registered a case under the relevant legal provisions. He said the weapon and vehicle used in the incident had been seized and that a full investigation was underway. He also said that attempts to disturb law and order in Himachal Pradesh, often referred to as Dev Bhoomi, would be dealt with strictly.

Investigators are now reviewing video evidence, questioning eyewitnesses and reconstructing the sequence of events that led to the firing. Police are also expected to examine whether the weapon was legally held and whether additional charges may be added as the probe continues. The incident has highlighted the risks of violent confrontations in crowded tourist destinations and raised concerns among local businesses and visitors about safety in one of the state’s most popular hill stations.
