Thunder’s Cason Wallace hits five 3-pointers in Game 7 loss

Cason Wallace scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished four assists, and added a steal and a block in 36 minutes as the Oklahoma City Thunder fell 111-103 to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals on Saturday. Wallace shot 6-for-10 from the field and 5-for-9 from three-point range, providing efficient production in a high-pressure elimination game.
Wallace returned to the starting lineup after coming off the bench in the Thunder’s previous two games. With Jalen Williams sidelined by a hamstring injury and Ajay Mitchell out because of a calf issue, Oklahoma City turned to Wallace in hopes of getting more energy and perimeter scoring in a must-win contest. He played a steady role for much of the game, but his biggest impact came late.
The guard forward heated up in the fourth quarter, when he scored 14 of his 17 points to help the Thunder stay within reach. His late surge gave Oklahoma City a needed offensive boost as it tried to extend its season, but the comeback effort fell short. The Thunder, who entered the series hoping to defend their title, were unable to close out the Spurs and saw their playoff run end one game short of the NBA Finals.
Wallace’s performance was one of the brighter individual efforts for Oklahoma City in the loss. His versatility was on display again, contributing in scoring, rebounding, playmaking and defense. The showing also reinforced his growing value to the Thunder, who have used him in different roles throughout the season.
The 2024-25 campaign marked a career year for Wallace, who started a career-high 58 regular-season games. His ability to defend multiple positions, space the floor and make timely plays made him an important part of Oklahoma City’s rotation. His Game 7 start in the conference finals suggested that the coaching staff continues to trust him in significant moments.
Wallace is currently under a team option for the 2026-27 season, which leaves his future role with the franchise worth watching. After earning increased responsibility during the regular season and stepping into the starting five in the playoffs when injuries opened opportunities, Wallace appears positioned to remain a meaningful piece for the Thunder going forward.
