San Antonio Spurs Stun Oklahoma City Thunder to Force NBA Playoff Decider

Victor Wembanyama delivered one of his best playoff performances as the San Antonio Spurs routed the defending NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder 118-91 to force a decisive Game 7 in the Western Conference Finals. The result tied the series at 3-3 and set up a winner-takes-all showdown in Oklahoma City.
San Antonio coach Mitch Johnson had urged Wembanyama to respond after a disappointing outing in Game 5, calling for the 22-year-old to score more than 20 points. Wembanyama answered emphatically, finishing with 28 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in a dominant all-around display. He exited the game with nearly eight minutes left in the third quarter, midway through a Spurs run that produced 20 consecutive points and put the contest out of reach.
Johnson praised Wembanyama for his “passion and desire” and for taking “responsibility” in a crucial game. The Spurs were aggressive from the opening tip and controlled the pace throughout, using early momentum to overwhelm Oklahoma City on both ends of the floor.
Stephon Castle added 17 points, nine assists and just one turnover, while Dylan Harper provided a spark off the bench with 18 points. The balanced effort helped San Antonio maintain pressure even after Wembanyama left the court late in the third quarter.
Oklahoma City star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was unable to repeat his 32-point performance from Game 5. He finished with 15 points and four assists, shooting only 6 of 18 from the field. It was his lowest scoring total since Game 3 of the 2025 Western Conference Finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Gilgeous-Alexander, a two-time NBA MVP, has struggled with efficiency in the series, shooting just 37.9% from the floor after opening the postseason by making 51.4% of his attempts in the first two rounds. Asked about the slump, he said he was unsure why his shots were not falling, noting that many of them were looks he has made before but that they simply were not going in.
He also acknowledged San Antonio’s edge in intensity, saying the Spurs were the aggressors from start to finish, played harder, were more aggressive and were in attack mode while Oklahoma City was “on our heels.”
The teams will meet again for Game 7 in Oklahoma City on Saturday, May 30, with tipoff set for 1:00 a.m. BST on Sunday, May 31. The winner will advance to face the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.
