Finidi George Reveals What Nigerians Can Expect from PSG vs Arsenal Champions League Final

Former Super Eagles and Ajax winger Finidi George has shared his thoughts ahead of the UEFA Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, saying the decisive factor will be calmness, mental strength, and composure under pressure. Finidi, who played in back-to-back Champions League finals with Ajax, winning the trophy in 1995 and finishing runner-up in 1996, said reaching the final is already a major achievement, but winning it requires the right mindset on the day.

Speaking before the match at the Puskas Arena, Finidi explained that teams must balance skill with emotional control, especially in a final where one mistake can decide everything. He said players need “mental toughness,” “capability,” and “mindset,” but stressed that calmness is what separates the winners from the rest. According to him, nervousness can easily affect a team’s performance, and conceding first in a final can make recovery very difficult because the game becomes tight, tactical, and difficult to open up.

Finidi said he is looking forward to the contest as a spectator and described it as a meeting between two of the best teams in Europe. He noted that PSG have been prolific in front of goal this season, scoring 140 goals across all competitions, while Arsenal have also been strong offensively, though slightly behind their French opponents. He believes this makes the matchup intriguing and expects a high-level tactical battle.

The former Enyimba coach also discussed the psychological challenge facing Arsenal. He pointed out that PSG have recent Champions League-winning experience and have a squad that has already been through the pressure of a final, which could give them an edge. For Arsenal, he said the current team is entering unfamiliar territory, and if they do not have players who have previously won a Champions League final, they will need to handle the occasion carefully.

Finidi warned that an early goal for PSG could test Arsenal’s mentality, especially if the Premier League side struggles to settle in the opening minutes. He believes PSG may try to attack aggressively early in the game to unsettle the Gunners, while Arsenal’s best chance may be to stay disciplined, resist pressure, and reach halftime without conceding. If they do that, he said, they would likely grow stronger after the break.

The 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner concluded that the final should be a fascinating contest between quality sides, with tactics, composure, and mental resilience likely to decide the outcome. Kick-off for the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League final is scheduled for 5:00 PM WAT, with live updates available on Soccernet.ng.
