Meryl Streep Dances to “Mamma Mia” at Emily Blunt’s Wedding

Emily Blunt has shared a new story about one of the most memorable moments from her 2010 wedding to John Krasinski: Meryl Streep dancing to ABBA’s “Mamma Mia” at a Lake Como boat party in Italy. Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Blunt explained that the impromptu dance happened after the DJ began playing the song and both her mother and Krasinski’s mother encouraged Streep to join in. Blunt said Streep went along with the request, creating a moment that became one of the biggest highlights of the celebration.
Blunt said she later asked Streep how she felt about being persuaded onto the dance floor. According to Blunt, Streep responded with humorous honesty, saying she “wanted to hurl” herself into the lake. Even so, Blunt said Streep did dance, and photos captured the moment with the women dancing together. Blunt described the scene as amazing and said Streep’s presence at the wedding clearly caused a stir among guests, many of whom were thrilled to see such a major Hollywood star at the private celebration.
The moment carries extra meaning because Blunt and Streep have a long professional history together. The two first appeared on screen in the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, which became one of Blunt’s breakout roles and established her as a major talent in Hollywood. Nearly two decades later, they returned to those roles in The Devil Wears Prada 2, which was released in theaters in May 2026. Their reunion has drawn attention from fans of the original film, which remains one of the most beloved fashion-world comedies of its era.
Blunt also recently spoke about her early nerves working with Streep. During an April appearance on SiriusXM while promoting the sequel, Blunt admitted that she felt “scared” during the first film because Streep stayed deeply in character on set. Blunt said Streep was not unfriendly, but carried an intense presence that made her seem difficult to approach in those moments. Streep responded that she had been “in that zone,” while Blunt explained that she admired her co-star’s extraordinary laugh and warm personality whenever she did come out of character.
The two actresses reunited again in April 2026 when Blunt received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Streep attended the ceremony and gave a warm tribute, telling Blunt that she felt as though she had “birthed” her and saying how proud she was of her. Streep also said she could not wait to work with Blunt again, underscoring the strong bond between the two stars after years of collaboration and public affection.
Blunt’s wedding anecdote, her memories of filming The Devil Wears Prada, and Streep’s recent tribute all highlight a long-running friendship built on mutual admiration, shared history, and memorable moments both on and off screen.
