HBO Max June 2026: The New Shows and Movies I’m Most Excited to Watch

HBO Max is set for a busy June with a slate that mixes prestige drama, documentaries, comedy and films. The streamer, long associated with some of television’s most influential series, is bringing back one of its biggest fantasy hits, debuting a new Larry David project and adding several notable nonfiction titles and a new A24 movie.
The month begins on June 1 with Bring Me The Beauties: A Model Cult, a three-part HBO documentary series released weekly. The show tells the story of Hoyt Richards, one of the first male supermodels of the 1980s, and how he became entangled in the cult Eternal Values. Led by Frederick von Mierers, the group promised spiritual enlightenment while exploiting its followers. The series blends true-crime intrigue with the world of fashion and ’80s excess.
On June 7, HBO Max premieres Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial vs. That’s the Weight of the World), a documentary directed by Questlove. The film explores the legacy and influence of the legendary band Earth, Wind & Fire, founded by Maurice White. Featuring members and collaborators such as Verdine White, Philip Bailey, Ralph Johnson and Al McKay, the documentary is expected to highlight the group’s musical reach and cultural impact.
Another major addition arrives on June 19 with How to Make a Killing (2026), an A24 comedy thriller starring Glen Powell. He plays Becket Redfellow, an heir cut out of a family fortune who, while in prison, recounts how he tried to win back his inheritance by eliminating relatives who stood in his way. Directed by John Patton Ford, the film also stars Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Bill Camp, Zach Woods and Topher Grace.
The biggest scripted event of the month comes on June 21 with House of the Dragon season 3. The Game of Thrones prequel returns after a two-year break, continuing the conflict between Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother Aegon II over the Iron Throne. Set 200 years before the original series, the show follows the Targaryen civil war as rival factions build dragon-riding armies and prepare for battle. The new season will feature eight episodes, with the first premiering on June 21 and the rest released weekly.
On June 26, HBO Max debuts Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, a seven-episode limited comedy series starring Larry David. Co-produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, the show features David alongside Bill Hader, Kathryn Hahn, Jon Hamm, Sean Hayes and other collaborators. Each episode includes four sketches centered on different moments in U.S. history, filtered through David’s trademark awkward and abrasive comedic style. The series premieres on HBO at 9 p.m. ET and streams on HBO Max the same night.
The month closes on June 30 with Bang My Box: The Robin Byrd Story, an HBO original documentary about the New York public-access icon who hosted a long-running late-night call-in show. Known for her boundary-pushing style and sex-positive persona, Byrd became a cult figure in 1970s and ’80s New York. The film is co-produced by Sarah Jessica Parker and looks back at Byrd’s unusual place in television history.
Overall, HBO Max’s June lineup leans on history, legacy and personality, offering a mix of dragons, cults, comedy sketches, classic music and documentary storytelling.
