Samara Weaving Says She Once Pretended to Be Margot Robbie for a Fan

Samara Weaving shared a lighthearted story about being mistaken for Margot Robbie and choosing not to correct the fan in the moment. Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of her new film Carolina Caroline, the Ready or Not actress recalled that the mix-up happened at an airport about 10 years ago. Rather than explain that she was not Robbie, Weaving said she posed for a photo and let the fan believe she was the Barbie star.
Weaving joked that she does not know whether the person ever realized the error later, adding that the fan may have looked back at the picture and noticed it was “some random lady” instead of Robbie. She also said she does not go out often enough for such mix-ups to happen frequently.
The story is the latest example of how often Weaving and Robbie are compared because of their similar looks. Fans have long pointed out the resemblance between the two Australian actresses, along with other stars such as Sex Education actress Emma Mackey and My Name Is Earl star Jaime Pressly.
Despite the comparisons, Weaving and Robbie are also friends in real life and have supported each other’s careers. The two actresses both appeared in Damien Chazelle’s Babylon and have been seen backing one another’s projects over the years. Most recently, Robbie attended the March premiere of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come to show her support for Weaving.
Weaving’s anecdote highlights the playful side of celebrity lookalike confusion, a recurring theme for public figures whose similar appearances often lead to mistaken identity in public. In this case, the incident became a funny memory rather than an awkward confrontation, and Weaving seemed amused by the possibility that someone may still have a photo saved on their phone believing it features Robbie.
The actress’s remarks also underline the friendly relationship between the two performers, who continue to be linked by both their Hollywood work and their shared Australian roots. Their mutual support and frequent comparisons have made them one of the most recognized celebrity lookalike pairings in entertainment.
