New Eloise Set Photos Show Mae Schenk Bringing the Beloved Character to Life

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Eloise is moving forward in New York City, with new set photos offering an early look at the classic character brought to life. Filming was recently spotted outside the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan on Friday, May 29, where newcomer Mae Schenk was seen in costume as the mischievous heroine from the beloved children’s book series.

Schenk appeared in a red wool military-style coat, paired with a matching bellhop cap and traditional Mary Jane shoes, creating a look that closely matched the playful style associated with Eloise. Between takes, the young actress was photographed smiling on the Plaza’s famous red-carpeted entrance, a setting long tied to the character’s identity. In the books, Eloise famously lives at the iconic New York hotel, making the location especially significant for the production.

The film is being directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, who is also co-writing the screenplay. Her involvement signals a family-friendly tone with a strong emphasis on charm, wit, and character-driven storytelling. Netflix has described the project as a fresh but faithful reintroduction of the classic property for a new generation of viewers.

Ryan Reynolds is attached to the movie as both a producer and the film’s villain, adding star power to the adaptation. The cast also includes Sally Hawkins, Victor Garber, David Haig, and Max Casella, though plot details remain closely guarded. The production has not yet revealed how the story will update the source material or how the characters will be reimagined for the screen.

Netflix executive Hannah Minghella previously said the company was excited to bring Eloise back to audiences, noting the character’s lasting popularity since the books were first published in the 1950s. She also highlighted the connection between Eloise and The Plaza, where many families visiting New York still stop because of the character’s enduring cultural presence.

The latest set photos also showed Isaac Bae filming scenes alongside Schenk, suggesting that the production is actively building out the world of the movie on location in New York. With filming underway and the Plaza serving as a key backdrop, the adaptation appears to be leaning into the setting that has always defined Eloise’s story.

As production continues, interest in the film is likely to grow, especially as more images emerge from the New York shoot. For fans of the books, the new live-action version offers a first glimpse at how one of children’s literature’s most recognizable characters is being translated for Netflix.
