Vaibhav Suryavanshi Sparks Buzz in Pakistan After 29-Ball 97, Age Questions and Praise Follow IPL 2026 Exploits

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become one of the biggest talking points in cricket after his explosive knock for Rajasthan Royals against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL Eliminator. The 15-year-old batter scored 97 runs off just 29 balls, producing one of the most dramatic innings of the season and coming within touching distance of a record-breaking century. His innings has sparked widespread discussion not only in India, but also across Pakistan, where cricket fans, former players, analysts, and television hosts have been praising his talent and confidence.

Suryavanshi’s power-hitting immediately drew comparisons with some of the biggest names in world cricket, especially Chris Gayle, who still holds the record for the fastest century in IPL history. Gayle reached his hundred in 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India in 2013, a milestone that has stood for more than a decade. Suryavanshi came agonizingly close to challenging that mark, but was dismissed after reaching 97, unable to complete the final few runs required for a historic century.

Despite missing out on the landmark, his batting left a major impression. In Pakistan, some commentators have even begun referring to him as the “Complan Boy,” a reference that reflects the scale of admiration around his youthful energy and striking power. Former Pakistan cricketer and coach Basit Ali praised Suryavanshi heavily in a video on his YouTube channel, saying that the teenager’s batting was so impressive that he could soon surpass Gayle’s achievements. He described Suryavanshi as a future global star and said the youngster had already earned the label of “Mr. Universe” in terms of batting impact.

Other Pakistani cricket experts echoed similar sentiments. Sports analyst Mohammad Mohsin called Suryavanshi a gifted and hard-working player, saying the teenager possesses rare natural talent and the ability to handle any delivery. He highlighted Suryavanshi’s composure under pressure and noted that even elite bowlers such as Pat Cummins did not trouble him. According to Mohsin, Suryavanshi did not seem concerned about reaching a century at any cost; instead, he played according to the situation and showed maturity beyond his age.

Television discussions in Pakistan also reflected the extraordinary reaction to the innings. Hosts and panelists said that Suryavanshi’s performance has made IPL a major talking point in the country, even though the league is officially banned there. Some viewers reportedly watched clips of the innings repeatedly through VPNs, while others said the knock had left a deep impression on cricket fans across the border. The excitement around the innings was so strong that one host jokingly suggested that the real celebration, or “Eid,” was being enjoyed by Suryavanshi himself.

At the same time, not all reactions were purely celebratory. A few Pakistani commentators questioned Suryavanshi’s age, suggesting that his performances may be tested more seriously in international cricket. Still, even among critics, there was agreement that the youngster’s display was extraordinary and that he has already announced himself as one of the most exciting young batters in the game.

Suryavanshi’s innings has therefore gone beyond a simple IPL highlight. It has become a cross-border cricket story, one that has fueled admiration, debate, and comparisons with some of the game’s biggest names.
