Earl Sweatshirt and Surf Gang Share “Chicago” Video

Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, and SURF GANG are preparing to release their joint album Pompeii // Utility, due out April 3 via 10k/Tan Cressida/SURF GANG Records. The project is split into two connected parts: Pompeii, led by Earl Sweatshirt, and Utility, led by MIKE, with SURF GANG contributing to both sides. The concept brings the artists together while also giving each rapper space to shape a distinct half of the release. The album follows a collaborative approach in which the two rappers appear on each other’s sections, creating a shared but divided listening experience.
The latest preview from the project is “Chicago,” one of the tracks from Earl Sweatshirt’s side. Unlike some of the other songs tied to the album, MIKE does not appear on this one. The track arrived with a video released on April 16. The visual is short, running under two minutes, and uses green-screen imagery to place Earl Sweatshirt and his crew in a variety of surreal settings. The footage shows them moving between scenes such as pyramids, a tropical island, and a colorful cityscape, giving the video a playful and dreamlike feel.
In recent comments about the album, Earl Sweatshirt said he feels a strong responsibility to put effort into the project because of the opportunity to make music at this level. MIKE also reflected on the collaborative nature of the release, describing it as part of a wider movement where everyone involved shares ownership and responsibility. His remarks suggest that Pompeii // Utility is intended not just as a collection of songs, but as a shared creative statement shaped by mutual respect and collective vision.
Along with the new song and video, details for the album artwork, tracklist, and upcoming tour dates have also been released. Pompeii includes tracks such as “The Fall,” “MY WORST (rebuke),” “Da Bid” featuring Jadasea, “NOT 4TW” featuring Anysia Kym, “F.E.A.R.” featuring Niontay, and “Back LA” featuring Na-Kel Smith. Earl’s side concludes with “Man of the Month.”
Utility features songs including “this2shallpass,” “:( again :),” “Home on the Range,” “rectangle lens,” “Leadbelly” featuring MIKE, “Locusts” featuring Lerado Khalil, “Tour de France,” “Chicago,” and “Don’t Worry!” The tracklists highlight the album’s split structure while also reinforcing the project’s collaborative nature.
The trio will support the album with an extensive 2026 tour, beginning with dates in Mexico City and continuing through North America, Europe, and the UK. The run includes major stops in Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Dublin, and other cities, with several dates featuring additional guests or special collaborators. The tour underscores the scale of the project and the close working relationship between Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, and SURF GANG as they prepare to bring Pompeii // Utility to audiences worldwide.
