Temperatures Across Tamil Nadu to Stay Within Normal Limits

Tamil Nadu is expected to see temperatures stay near normal over the next three days, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai. Only isolated pockets in the north interior districts may experience a rise in maximum temperature by two to three degrees Celsius, while most areas are likely to see little change. Officials said maximum temperatures may increase by only 0.5 to 1 degree Celsius in general.

For Chennai and the northern districts, the maximum temperature on Thursday is expected to be around 40 to 41 degrees Celsius, with partly cloudy skies. On Wednesday, temperatures across the State stayed below 40 degrees Celsius because a circulation over the Bay of Bengal caused cloud cover. However, meteorologists said that system has now moved northwest, so the cooling effect was temporary.

The weather office has also forecast heavy rain at isolated places on Thursday and Friday in several districts, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem and Erode. One or two places may also see thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph.

In addition, light to moderate rain is likely at a few places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and the Karaikal area. The forecast suggests a mix of heat and localized rainfall, with some districts in the interior and western parts of the State likely to receive heavier showers than coastal areas.

The Regional Weather Forecasting Centre said there is no major temperature spike expected for most of Tamil Nadu, despite the hot conditions usually associated with this period of the year. Chennai, which is often affected by high humidity and rising afternoon temperatures, is likely to remain hot but not significantly hotter than usual.

The forecast indicates that residents in northern and interior districts should be prepared for warm conditions during the day, along with the possibility of sudden rain or thunderstorms in some areas. The combination of heat, cloud cover and scattered rainfall is expected to continue over the next few days.

Officials advised that isolated heavy rain and thunderstorm activity may lead to short periods of disruption in affected districts, especially where strong gusty winds are forecast. The weather situation will remain under watch as conditions continue to vary from one region to another within the State.
