Eury Pérez injury update: What happened to the Marlins pitcher before vs. Blue Jays on May 27, 2025

Miami Marlins right-hander Eury Pérez left Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays after suffering a hamstring spasm, creating immediate concern for a pitcher whose health remains central to the club’s rotation plans.
Pérez’s outing at Rogers Centre ended after three scoreless innings in one of his sharpest performances of the season. He allowed just two hits, issued no walks and struck out seven while throwing 55 pitches. At the time of his departure, Miami held a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after Otto Lopez’s first-inning RBI single scored Xavier Edwards.
The injury appeared to happen while Pérez was stretching between innings. He immediately sat down on the Marlins’ bench and later needed assistance leaving the dugout and heading toward the clubhouse. Michael Petersen replaced him in the game.
Before exiting, Pérez was overpowering Toronto with a mix of velocity and movement. His pitch log included a 99 mph four-seam fastball, a 96 mph sinker, an 88 mph slider and a 78 mph curveball, and the Blue Jays had struggled to generate any sustained offense. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. recorded one of Toronto’s only two hits against him, and the team managed just two total bases during his three innings.
The early departure comes at a sensitive time for Miami. Pérez entered the game with a 3-6 record and a 4.91 ERA, but he had recently shown signs of improving form. In his previous start against the Mets, he allowed one run over 6 1/3 innings in a 2-1 Marlins victory. Wednesday’s outing looked like another encouraging step after Sandy Alcantara was hit for eight runs in Tuesday’s 8-1 loss, a result that tied the series at one game each.
For the Marlins, the immediate challenge is to hold a close game after losing their starter earlier than expected. The broader concern, however, is the status of Pérez, who missed the 2024 season following Tommy John surgery and returned in 2025. At 23 years old, he is viewed as one of Miami’s most important long-term pitching pieces, making any injury scare especially significant.
The club has not yet provided a full diagnosis, but the initial description of a hamstring spasm is more encouraging than an arm-related issue. Even so, Miami will be monitoring Pérez closely after an abrupt exit from a promising start that had been shaping up as one of his best of 2026.
