MobLand Drama: Tom Hardy Reportedly Refused to Leave Trailer

Tom Hardy’s future on Paramount+’s MobLand is uncertain after reports claimed he had been fired from the series, though sources close to production say no final decision has been made. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hardy has been in conflict with producers, including executive producer Jez Butterworth and others at 101 Studios, the company behind the crime drama filmed in the U.K. A major factor in the uncertainty is that Paramount+ has not yet officially renewed MobLand for a third season, although one source says filming could tentatively begin in September if the show is greenlit.
The report says tensions on set during season two have raised concerns about Hardy’s behavior, with one source alleging he spent long periods in his trailer and kept cast members waiting. The source described that conduct as a power play and said it would be especially problematic given the presence of co-stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. In MobLand, Hardy plays Harry Da Souza, a fixer for the Harrigan crime family headed by Brosnan’s Conrad and Mirren’s Maeve. The series also stars Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Jasmine Jobson, Mandeep Dhillon, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Janet McTeer, Jordi Mollà and Toby Jones.
It remains unclear what specifically caused the reported tensions. A separate Puck News report said Hardy was trying to adjust dialogue and submit script notes to Butterworth and creator Ronan Bennett. The situation has also revived long-running talk in Hollywood about Hardy’s reputation as a difficult collaborator, especially when working alongside high-profile actors. The report points to George Miller’s comments in 2024 about Hardy’s clashes with Charlize Theron on Mad Max: Fury Road, where Miller said Hardy had to be coaxed out of his trailer and contrasted his behavior with Theron’s disciplined approach.
The article also cites Patrick Stewart’s memoir Making It So, in which he described Hardy as withdrawn and uncommunicative while they worked together on Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002. Stewart wrote that Hardy did not socialize with the cast and spent downtime in his trailer. Hardy has also appeared in The Dark Knight trilogy, Peaky Blinders and the Venom films.
Neither Hardy’s team nor a representative for Mirren commented to THR. Brosnan was reportedly unavailable because he was traveling. Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios were also asked for updates. A release date for MobLand season two has not yet been announced, and the show’s next steps appear to depend on whether Paramount+ moves forward with another season and how the production handles Hardy’s role if it does.
