OKC Thunder: Sam Presti Could Make a Major Draft-Day Trade for Top-Tier Talent

The Oklahoma City Thunder could be preparing for a bold move ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft as they continue their title defense in the 2026 NBA Playoffs. According to a report by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Thunder may consider packaging their draft assets in an effort to move up the board and target Duke star Cameron Boozer, one of the most highly regarded young prospects in the class.

Oklahoma City currently owns three selections in the 2026 draft: No. 12 overall, acquired through the 2019 Paul George trade; No. 17, obtained in a deal involving Jared McCain at the trade deadline; and No. 37, which came from the Dallas Mavericks. While the more likely outcome may be that the Thunder trade one or more of those picks for future draft compensation, executives around the league believe Sam Presti could take a more aggressive approach if the right opportunity appears.

Siegel reported that some league executives can envision Oklahoma City combining its picks and additional assets to move into the lottery, potentially as high as the top four, in pursuit of Boozer. Such a move would represent a major swing for a franchise that has often used draft capital strategically but also has the flexibility to pursue elite talent when the chance arises.

The Thunder’s current postseason run is expected to play a major role in determining how aggressive the front office becomes before draft night. If Oklahoma City advances deep into the playoffs or secures another championship, the team could be more willing to make an ambitious move to strengthen its long-term outlook. The NBA Draft is scheduled for June 23-24, giving the franchise a limited window to decide whether to stand pat, trade for future assets, or package its picks in a bid to land a top-tier prospect.

Cam Boozer has emerged as one of the marquee names to watch in the 2026 draft conversation, and Oklahoma City’s combination of draft capital and front-office creativity makes it a team to monitor closely. Under Sam Presti, the Thunder have repeatedly shown a willingness to think several steps ahead, and this latest rumor suggests that another significant move could be on the table if the organization decides to go all-in on its next young cornerstone.
