Met Office Names 18 Areas Facing Heavy Rain on Wednesday: Full List

The Met Office has forecast a wet and unsettled start to Wednesday, with rain and drizzle affecting several parts of the UK before conditions improve later in the day. According to the weather agency, the morning will begin under cloudy skies, with rain spreading in from the west and bringing downpours to a wide stretch of the country. The forecast says that while many areas will start the day damp, brighter weather is expected to develop in parts of the north, northwest and south as the day goes on.
The Met Office described Wednesday as beginning with “a cloudy start with some rain and drizzle,” before conditions turn “brighter in the north and northwest with scattered showers.” It also said that “some warm bright spells are developing in the south,” although humidity will remain high there. The weather pattern is expected to be particularly active early in the morning, with rain moving across western regions and affecting a large area by around 6.30am.
Weather maps from the Met Office show that much of the western side of the UK will be hit by rain, with the wet weather sweeping in from the Atlantic. Areas from Cornwall in South West England up to Gairloch in North West Scotland are forecast to experience rain as the system pushes eastward. The map suggests that the heaviest and most widespread rain will be concentrated across western parts of the country during the early morning period.
In addition to the west, a smaller area along England’s east coast is also expected to see rainfall. Parts of Lincolnshire and Norfolk are included in the forecast, with showers likely to reach inland into sections of the Midlands as well. This means the rain will not be limited solely to coastal or western areas, but could affect a broader band across central England too.
While the start of the day is expected to be unsettled, the Met Office outlook suggests that some areas will see improving conditions later on. Northern and northwestern regions are likely to become brighter after the morning rain clears, although scattered showers may remain. In the south, brighter and warmer spells are also forecast, offering a contrast to the cloudy and wet start. However, those southern areas are still expected to feel humid, making the weather feel close and uncomfortable at times.
The return of wintry conditions in parts of the UK adds to the contrast in the weather pattern, with different regions seeing different conditions at the same time. Some places will face rain and drizzle, while others may enjoy clearer intervals and warm bright spells. The forecast highlights the changeable nature of the UK weather, where conditions can vary significantly from one region to another over the course of a single day.
Overall, Wednesday is set to begin with a band of rain moving in from the west, affecting a broad area from the southwest of England to the northwest of Scotland, as well as parts of eastern and central England. Although brighter weather is expected to emerge later in the north, northwest and south, many regions will need to deal with a damp and cloudy start before any improvement arrives.
