Denis Shapovalov of Canada was pushed harder in his match against Britain’s Jack Pinnington Jones, but he came through in three sets. Shapovalov won the first set 6-4, dropped the second 4-6, then sealed victory in a deciding-set tiebreak, 7-6 with a 7-3 breaker score.
In doubles, British pair Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, the second seeds, moved through their match with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo and American Brandon Nakashima. Another doubles result saw Yuki Bhambri of India and Michael Venus of New Zealand defeat Australia’s Alex de Minaur and Britain’s Cameron Norrie 6-4, 7-5.
Luke Johnson of Great Britain and Jan Zielinski of Poland also won a closely contested doubles match, overcoming Czech duo Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik after a match tiebreak. After losing the first set 3-6, Johnson and Zielinski responded strongly to take the second 6-3 before securing the match 12-10 in the final tiebreak.
The tournament schedule also showed upcoming or in-progress singles matches, including Alexander Blockx of Belgium against Francisco Cerundolo and Tommy Paul against Spain’s Jaume Munar, though no scores were available for those contests at the time of reporting.
The Queen’s Club event is one of the key grass-court tournaments in the build-up to Wimbledon, and the results reflect a competitive early phase of the competition, with seeded players, home interest, and tight matches all featuring prominently. The listings note that all times are UK time and are subject to change.
