Guzman y Gomez Becomes First Australian Fast Food Chain on Apple CarPlay
Guzman y Gomez has become the first fast-food chain in Australia to offer in-app ordering through Apple CarPlay, allowing customers to place and pay for food orders hands-free from their car. The Mexican fast-food chain announced the feature on Tuesday, saying it is designed to make the drive-through process faster and more convenient for customers who already know what they want.
The new system lets users access the GYG app through the CarPlay screen, choose their nearest restaurant, select a favourite or recent order, and complete checkout using a saved payment card. Customers can then drive to the outlet while tracking their order in real time on the screen. The company said the update removes the need to pick up a phone, helping drivers order burritos and other menu items with just a few taps from the dashboard.
Guzman y Gomez, commonly known as GYG, has been expanding its use of technology as part of a broader effort to modernise fast food. The company operates more than 280 restaurants across Australia, Singapore and Japan, and has positioned itself around speed, convenience and digital innovation. Chief technology officer Bryce Maybury said the new CarPlay integration reflects the brand’s goal of making it easier for loyal customers to get their food quickly and without hassle.
Maybury said GYG’s customers often know exactly what they want and value speed over browsing long menus. He said the company is focused on creating technology that fits how people want to eat, whether that means ordering ahead, saving favourite meals, or using in-car systems to complete purchases safely and efficiently.
The CarPlay feature is available after downloading the GYG app and connecting it to a compatible Apple CarPlay system. Once installed, the app can be accessed directly from the vehicle’s display, where users can navigate to their preferred restaurant and place an order while on the move. The order status is then shown on the screen, giving drivers a simple way to time their arrival at the store.
Alongside the CarPlay launch, GYG has also added support for its rewards cards in Apple Wallet. The move gives customers another digital option for storing and using loyalty benefits, reinforcing the company’s push toward a more connected ordering experience. The updates come as fast-food chains continue looking for ways to speed up service and make ordering more seamless through mobile and in-car technology.
GYG said the combination of CarPlay ordering and Apple Wallet integration is part of its ongoing mission to reinvent fast food by using technology to improve convenience for customers.
