NBA Last Two Minutes Report Clarifies Whether De’Aaron Fox Was Fouled by OG Anunoby After Viral Knicks-Spurs Photo

The final two minutes of Wednesday’s Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Finals were chaotic, and the NBA’s Last Two Minute Report confirmed that officials missed multiple calls in the New York Knicks’ 107-106 win over the San Antonio Spurs. However, the report said the controversial late sequence involving OG Anunoby and De’Aaron Fox was correctly handled, despite video and photos that made it appear a foul may have occurred.
According to the league’s review released Thursday, referees missed a defensive three-second violation on Victor Wembanyama and also failed to call a Josh Hart foul on a key play in which Stephon Castle was ruled out of bounds for a turnover. The report also stated that Anunoby made a legal attempt to block Fox’s shot, dislodging the ball before making incidental arm contact.
The late possession drew the most attention because the Spurs had a one-point lead in the final 15 seconds and Fox created a crucial chance to extend it. Instead of using the clock and forcing New York to foul, Fox took a contested shot against Anunoby. The league determined that the contact was not sufficient for a whistle.
New York then secured the rebound and scored the basket that proved to be the game-winner, helping the Knicks take a 3-1 lead in the series. The victory completed a 29-point comeback, the largest in NBA Finals history.
Fox’s decision on the final possession loomed large, but the Spurs also struggled to maintain the momentum they built in the first half, when they scored 76 points. Their offense stalled badly after halftime, allowing New York to climb back into the game.
Another major missed call came on a possession involving Castle stepping out of bounds with just over a minute left while the Knicks led by one. The report said Hart should have been called for a foul on the play. If that whistle had been made, San Antonio may have had a chance to take the lead or at least create a different final sequence.
The Spurs’ collapse leaves them facing a deep series deficit and needing three straight wins to keep their championship hopes alive. While the Last Two Minute Report acknowledged officiating errors, it did not support claims that Anunoby fouled Fox on the decisive shot, settling one of the night’s biggest controversies while leaving San Antonio to focus on the missed opportunities that helped turn the game into a historic Knicks comeback.
