James Harden Arrested on Weapons Charge in NBA Legal Issue

James Harden, the Cleveland Cavaliers guard, was reportedly arrested in Texas on Saturday, June 13, on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful carrying of weapons after police allegedly found a handgun in his car, according to TMZ. The outlet reported that Harden was released on bond within hours and that a court date has been set for Monday, June 22. Harden has not publicly commented on the reported arrest, and a representative for the athlete has been contacted for response.
Harden is 36 and was drafted into the NBA in 2009. He currently plays for the Cavaliers, who were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals in May by the New York Knicks. During the 2026 playoff run, the Cavaliers reached the conference finals before falling short of the NBA Finals. The Knicks are now competing against the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals, with New York leading the series 3-1.
After the Cavaliers’ postseason exit, Harden spoke about the team’s performance and said the group had shown progress even though it did not reach its ultimate goal. He noted that Cleveland made it through a difficult playoff path, including winning a Game 7 at home and another on the road, but said the team still has “another level” to reach. Harden described the loss as frustrating while also saying the Cavaliers accomplished a lot in their first season together and have room to improve.
Harden said the Cavaliers are a talented team and emphasized the value of having a full season together to build chemistry and better understand the roster. He suggested that the offseason would be important for taking the next step and positioning the team for a stronger future campaign.
Before joining Cleveland in 2025, Harden played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers. His NBA career began in 2009 after being selected in the draft. The reported arrest marks the latest development involving the veteran guard as he enters the next stage of his career with the Cavaliers.
