Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix practice, qualifying and race times in UK time, plus weather forecast

Round seven of the 2026 Formula 1 season takes place in Spain for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, the first of two races in the country this year, running from 12 to 14 June. The race comes after a dramatic run of results that has tightened the battle at the front of the championship and added pressure to several leading drivers as the European leg of the calendar continues.
McLaren arrived in Barcelona in strong form, with world champion Lando Norris setting the pace in Friday practice. Norris topped the timesheets ahead of Mercedes driver George Russell by just 0.009 seconds, underlining how close the margins were at the front of the field. Norris’s team-mate Oscar Piastri completed the top three, giving McLaren an encouraging start to the weekend and suggesting the team could be a major factor in qualifying and the race itself.
The championship picture has also shifted following last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix. Teenager Kimi Antonelli now leads the drivers’ standings by 66 points from Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, who has moved ahead of Russell in the table after his fifth consecutive victory in Monaco. Russell, meanwhile, failed to score points in the previous round and has dropped to third in the championship, 68 points behind his Mercedes team-mate Antonelli.
That development has increased the importance of the Barcelona weekend for Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren alike. Antonelli’s growing advantage at the top has made him the driver to catch, while Hamilton’s form has kept Ferrari firmly in contention. Russell will be eager to respond after a difficult last outing, especially after showing competitive pace in practice and finishing narrowly behind Norris.
Barcelona-Catalunya is traditionally regarded as a demanding circuit that tests both car performance and driver consistency, making Friday practice a useful indicator but not a guarantee of race-day order. The small gap between Norris and Russell suggests a closely matched contest could unfold across the weekend, with Piastri also firmly in the mix. With the championship standings already shaped by recent results, every session in Spain carries added significance.
The Grand Prix is scheduled to begin with lights out at 14:00 BST at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. As the season moves deeper into its European phase, the Spanish round offers another key opportunity for contenders to build momentum, recover from setbacks, and strengthen their position in the title fight.
