Sri Lanka A Team Tri-Series 2026: Afghanistan A vs India A, 2nd Match Report (June 11, 2026)

Afghanistan A pulled off a dramatic DLS win over India A in a rain-hit contest after India A posted 349 for 9 in 49 overs and Afghanistan A reached 177 for 2 in 29 overs, finishing four runs ahead when play was stopped because of bad light and rain. India A’s strong total was built around a series of fluent batting performances, led by Prabhsimran Singh’s 84, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 66 and Tilak Varma’s 66, while 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi again drew attention with a lively 44 off 22 balls. Sooryavanshi began aggressively, cutting his first two deliveries for boundaries and repeatedly punishing anything short or wide on the off side as India A raced to 50 in under five overs. He struck nine fours before being caught behind off Abdollah Ahmadzai. Prabhsimran then took charge, driving confidently through the covers and using his feet to the spinners. He reached his half-century off 39 balls and kept India A moving at a rapid rate, with all of his first 12 boundaries coming through the off side. Gaikwad, fresh from a century in the previous match against Sri Lanka A, played a steady supporting role at first before joining Tilak in a 78-run partnership that kept India A on course for a massive finish. The pair rotated strike intelligently through the middle overs, adding singles and doubles and only accelerating when the innings entered its final phase. Gaikwad reached his fifty before falling while trying to lift the scoring rate, and Tilak followed with a second consecutive half-century. Late contributions from Suryansh Shedge and Anukul Roy helped India A close near 350 despite losing wickets in the final overs. Afghanistan A’s reply began after a rain delay and a revised chase target, with conditions making a full result unlikely. Openers Hassan Eisakhil and Imran gave their side a brisk start, with Eisakhil initially more aggressive. India A’s pace attack struggled to create pressure early, while the spinners were largely unable to break the partnership. Arshad Khan provided a breakthrough by dismissing Eisakhil after a short-ball plan worked in the eighth over. Later, Anukul Roy produced the most threatening spell among the spinners, trapping Khalid Taniwal lbw with an arm ball. But Afghanistan A remained ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern par score as Imran and Bahir Shah batted with composure. Imran anchored the chase with an unbeaten 75 from 70 balls, while Bahir Shah supported him with 51 from 52 deliveries. Their unbeaten stand ensured Afghanistan A stayed ahead when rain and poor light forced the match to be abandoned, giving them a memorable four-run victory on DLS.
