Bpifrance, Mistral and MGX Expand Campus AI to 3 GW Across France

Campus AI announced a major expansion of its artificial intelligence infrastructure in France, with plans to deploy up to 3 gigawatts of computing capacity across a national network of low-carbon AI factories. The project was presented at the Choose France summit in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron and Khaldoon Al Mubarak. The upcoming selection of a second site will double the consortium’s initial investment.

Campus AI is a joint venture involving Bpifrance, Mistral AI, MGX and NVIDIA. The expansion builds on the flagship campus in Fouju, Seine-et-Marne, which is already being developed with the support of local officials and stakeholders. Each new site will follow the same environmental standards, including waterless cooling, energy-efficient design and use of France’s largely decarbonized electricity mix.

According to the company, the initiative is intended to strengthen France’s position as a European hub for artificial intelligence while supporting digital sovereignty. Mistral, which holds a stake in Campus AI, will receive priority access to computing capacity across all sites. The project is also expected to create thousands of jobs in France and rely on the country’s industrial strengths in energy, batteries, semiconductors and electronics to build out the full value chain.

Thibaud Desfossés, President of Campus AI, said France has the energy, talent and research base to lead Europe in AI. He described the move to 3 GW as a way to build an open platform with French industrial and regional partners, while helping domestic suppliers move up the AI infrastructure value chain. He added that each gigawatt should generate value in France rather than simply passing through the country.

Campus AI was first announced at Choose France in May 2025 as a next-generation computing infrastructure project for France and Europe. The joint venture brings together MGX, a global technology investment firm focused on AI and advanced technologies; Bpifrance, France’s public investment bank; Mistral AI, a French generative AI company; and NVIDIA, a global leader in accelerated computing.
