Bárbara de Regil says she won’t have more children

Bárbara de Regil says her professional ambitions are now her main priority, and that decision has shaped both her personal life and her career path. To focus on acting, producing, and eventually directing, the Mexican actress decided not to have more children. She explained that motherhood would take time away from the projects she wants to pursue, adding that she already has her daughter Mar and now wants to dedicate herself fully to work.

That determination has also influenced the kinds of roles she accepts. De Regil has chosen disruptive characters that break away from stereotypes and allow her to show different sides of her talent. One of her most recognized roles is Rosario Tijeras, a character she brings back for a fifth season on Netflix. Although she admitted that after the third season she thought about leaving the role so she would not be typecast, she later realized that her work in comedy, drama, and period productions has helped demonstrate her range as an actress.

In addition to Rosario Tijeras, de Regil has taken part in projects such as Loca por el trabajo, El roomie, Mujeres asesinas, and Carlota. These productions, she said, have allowed audiences to see that she can move across genres and styles. Her goal is not only to remain in front of the camera, but also to expand her role in the industry through production and direction.

The new season of Rosario Tijeras will present a more intense conflict for the character, who will now face her own daughter Rubí, played by Samantha Acuña. At the same time, Rosario joins forces with “El Ángel,” played by Sebastián Martínez, in an attempt to regain power within the criminal world. The storyline pushes the character into a darker and more emotionally complicated situation, adding new tension to the series.

De Regil also serves as a producer on the fourth and fifth seasons, and said that role has given her the freedom to suggest script changes. She emphasized that she knows the character better than anyone else because she is the only person who has remained with the project throughout its run. For that reason, she says her suggestions are always meant to strengthen the story and better connect with the audience.

The actress noted that the role has demanded more from her each season. For this installment, she trained in Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu to make the action scenes more realistic. She said she personally performs the fight sequences because fans expect to see Rosario in action and because she wants to meet those expectations with authenticity. De Regil described the character as something like a “Mexican Batman,” highlighting both the physical intensity and the larger-than-life appeal that have made Rosario Tijeras one of her defining roles.
