British Royal Family Gathers for Peter Phillips’ Wedding to Nurse Harriet Sperling
King Charles III and Queen Camilla joined senior members of the British royal family on Saturday for the wedding of Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne and the late Queen Elizabeth II’s eldest grandson. The ceremony took place in Kemble, a village in southwestern England, where Phillips married Harriet Sperling, a nurse with Britain’s National Health Service, in a church service attended by more than 100 guests.
The wedding brought together several prominent royals, including Prince William and Princess Catherine, along with Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. The gathering reflected the continued close ties within the royal family, with many attendees arriving in formal daytime attire suited to the occasion, including hats, tailcoats, and dresses. The event drew public attention as well-wishers lined up to greet the couple and members of the royal family as they arrived at the church.
Sperling wore a high-neck lace gown designed by Emilia Wickstead, adding a traditional and elegant touch to the ceremony. The bride and groom left the church amid cheers from the crowd, while guests braved heavy rain and used umbrellas as they showered the couple with rose petals. Despite the weather, the atmosphere remained celebratory as the newly married pair were congratulated by family and guests.
Phillips, 48, is the son of Princess Anne and her first husband, Mark Phillips. He is also the nephew of King Charles III and a first cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry. His marriage to Sperling marks a new chapter in his personal life after his previous marriage to Autumn Kelly ended in separation. Phillips and Kelly share two children.
The couple’s engagement was announced last year, drawing interest in part because of Phillips’ place in the royal family and Sperling’s background as a healthcare professional. Saturday’s wedding offered a rare public appearance by several senior royals in a family setting, underscoring the ceremonial traditions that continue to play a visible role in the monarchy.
The event combined royal pageantry with a more intimate family celebration, as guests gathered in a countryside church for the service before the couple departed to applause, petals, and rain. The presence of the king, queen, and other senior royals highlighted the importance of the occasion within the family, while the bride’s design and the formal dress code reinforced the traditional tone of the day.
