Spain 2026 World Cup Team Guide: Full Squad Preview and Key Players

Spain arrive at the 2026 World Cup among the leading favourites, backed by a well-balanced squad and a renewed sense of belief under Luis de la Fuente. The reigning European champions are aiming to win a second World Cup title, and their combination of youth, experience and tactical clarity has made them one of the most admired teams heading to North America.

Much of the attention will focus on Lamine Yamal, whose creativity, confidence and flair have transformed Spain’s attack. The Barcelona winger, still a teenager, is expected to be one of the tournament’s biggest attractions and a possible star of the entire competition. His wing partner Nico Williams also gives Spain pace and unpredictability, though both players have recently dealt with hamstring issues and may miss the opening matches of the group stage. Even so, Spain expect both to be available later in the group phase and to play major roles if the team advances.

Spain’s strength is not limited to its attacking talent. De la Fuente has assembled a squad with serious depth in every department. Unai Simón remains the leading goalkeeper, but he is being challenged by David Raya and Joan García after strong seasons at club level. In defence, Eric García has earned a recall after becoming an important figure for Barcelona. The midfield remains Spain’s greatest asset, featuring technically gifted players such as Pedri, Gavi and Martín Zubimendi, alongside established stars Rodri and Fabián Ruiz. This gives Spain a side built around possession, control and intelligence, but with more directness and flexibility than in previous eras.

Up front, Spain also have reliable goalscorers. Mikel Oyarzabal offers a proven ability to deliver in decisive moments, while Ferran Torres and Borja Iglesias provide additional options. Spain scored 21 goals in six World Cup qualifiers, winning five and drawing one, underlining the attacking balance in the squad.

De la Fuente has become a key figure in Spain’s recent success. Known for strong communication and man-management, he has built a unified and competitive dressing room. He led Spain to the 2024 European Championship title and has made bold choices in selecting his World Cup group, including leaving out all Real Madrid players. His approach blends tradition with tactical adaptability and has helped restore Spain’s confidence on the international stage.

Among the players to watch is Víctor Muñoz, a surprise inclusion after a breakthrough season at Osasuna. The fast and direct winger offers an explosive option from the bench. Another important but less celebrated figure is Eric García, whose intelligence and composure have made him a dependable presence for Barcelona and now a valuable addition to the national side again.

Spanish supporters are expected to travel in large numbers, as they usually do for major tournaments, bringing flags, drums and strong visual identity to stadiums. While political tensions between Spain and the United States have been noted, they are unlikely to affect the team’s campaign. Spain enter the tournament confident, ambitious and determined to convert their strong form into a world title.
