Apple WWDC 2026 Live Updates: Tim Cook’s Final Developer Conference

Apple used its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8, 2026, to showcase a broad refresh of its software strategy, headlined by a major upgrade to Siri, stronger parental controls, improved search, and refinements to its visual design language. The company said its new Siri AI is designed to be far more conversational, able to handle back-and-forth exchanges, provide longer answers, and understand personal context across apps and devices. Apple also said the assistant will get a dedicated app that can revisit past conversations and results, while support will extend to iPads and Macs. On laptops, Siri will be able to analyze text and images visible on the screen, expanding beyond basic voice commands and into more contextual assistance.

Apple framed Siri AI as a more capable, integrated assistant built on Apple Intelligence, the company’s broader AI platform. In a demo, the assistant was shown helping with questions about content on screen and answering follow-up requests in a more natural dialogue. Apple said the redesigned Siri can help users ask for detailed plans, refine ideas during brainstorming, and get feedback on documents. The company also introduced new voices for the assistant.

Apple said its second version of Apple Foundation Models can process speech, text, and images, and that Apple Intelligence now coordinates across the operating system through a new system orchestrator. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, argued that the company’s approach is different from rivals that are “doing AI for the sake of AI,” saying Apple’s focus is on usefulness and personal context.

The company also highlighted major trust and safety updates for families. Parents will gain new tools to monitor children’s device and internet use, including a digital setup assistant that helps determine app access and usage limits. Children will need parental approval to reach certain websites across Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Safari. Apple said these controls are meant to give parents more power over what children can see, who they can communicate with, and when they can use their devices.

Apple said it has rebuilt the search index behind Spotlight and other system features to make it more stable and efficient. The company said the device now indexes content as it is created, improving search across mail and other data. Apple also announced improvements to its Liquid Glass design, including more control over transparency and better performance across the system. The next version of macOS will be called Golden Gate.

The event came as Apple faces pressure to prove that its AI strategy can catch up to the expectations it set in 2024. CEO Tim Cook used the keynote to emphasize Apple’s latest advances in Apple Intelligence and Siri, while also appearing in what is expected to be one of his final WWDC opening presentations before handing the CEO role to John Ternus in September.
