Soccer Simulator Challenges Players to Build Their Dream National Team

A new football simulator called 7a0 is turning an old bar-stool debate into an interactive game: if national-team restrictions did not exist, what would the greatest World Cup lineup of all time look like? The concept is simple. The system randomly selects one of the national teams that have appeared in World Cup history, and the player picks one footballer from that squad to build a dream roster.
The article describes one test run using the classic 4-4-2 formation. The first selection was Colombia 2014, which led to James Rodríguez. From there, the attack was completed with Lionel Messi from Argentina 2018 and Andriy Shevchenko from Ukraine 2006. The midfield was rounded out with Mario Kempes from Argentina 1978 and N’Golo Kanté from France 2018. On defense, the picks included Denzel Dumfries from the Netherlands 2026 and Jaap Stam from the Netherlands 1998.
With only three positions left to fill, the player rerolled and passed on Ivory Coast 2010, then received Brazil 1978 and chose goalkeeper Taffarel. The back line was completed with Uruguay defender Diego Godín from 2010, and the midfield gained another star in Kaká, also from Brazil 2010.
The game then moved from team selection to competition. Even though previous attempts had shown the simulator could be unpredictable, the player entered the tournament confident. In the group stage, the dream team defeated Russia 2018, Argentina 1974 and Greece 2010, finishing first in the group.
The knockout rounds brought tougher challenges, including three different Brazil squads. The team opened with a 5-0 win over Brazil 1974, followed by a 4-1 victory against Brazil 1982 and a tighter 2-1 result against Brazil 1986. In the final, the dream lineup beat Italy 1994 to complete a perfect title run.
The article notes that winning was not easy and did not happen on the first try. In “Classic” mode, the system also adds help by assigning ratings to the available players, making team-building a little easier. For those who want a stricter challenge, the game also offers an “Almanac” mode, where players rely only on memory and football knowledge to choose the best possible squad.
Beyond the novelty, 7a0 taps into a familiar soccer fantasy: combining legends from different eras and countries into one impossible team. It turns a common conversation among fans into a competitive simulator, where history, memory and luck all play a role in deciding whether a dream roster can actually conquer the World Cup.
