Iran launches missiles toward Israel as IDF works to intercept threats — live updates

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said that tonight’s attacks on Israel were intended “as a warning,” escalating tensions in the region after fresh violence linked to Israel’s earlier strike on Lebanon. In a statement, the IRGC said that if what it described as Israeli “acts of aggression” are repeated, its response would become “broader” and would include “all” US and Israeli targets across the region.

The IRGC claimed responsibility for targeting the Ramat David Airbase, which lies south-east of Haifa, using ballistic missiles. The group framed the attack as part of a wider warning message and suggested that further military action could follow if Israel continues operations it considers hostile.

The statement also accused both the United States and Israel of failing to honour their commitments under the ceasefire that came into effect in early April between Iran, the US and Israel. By linking the latest attack to the ceasefire, the IRGC appeared to argue that the agreement had already been undermined, reinforcing its justification for a stronger retaliatory posture.

The remarks signal a sharp rise in rhetoric from Tehran’s powerful military force, which portrayed the strike not as an isolated action but as a warning of possible escalation. By naming US assets alongside Israeli targets, the IRGC widened the scope of its threat and underscored the possibility of a broader regional confrontation if hostilities continue.

The statement comes amid heightened concern about instability involving Iran, Israel and the United States, with each side accusing the others of violating commitments and increasing the risk of further military exchanges. The IRGC’s language suggests that it sees the current moment as one in which deterrence must be reasserted through direct action.

The attack on the Ramat David Airbase also highlights the strategic nature of the target chosen by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. Airbases are central military installations, and any strike against one carries both operational and symbolic significance. By naming the site publicly, the IRGC has signalled confidence in its ability to reach key Israeli military infrastructure.

The broader message in the statement is that Iran is prepared to respond more forcefully if it believes its interests or those of its allies are threatened. The warning to the US and Israel together indicates that the IRGC views the confrontation as interconnected, with regional consequences extending beyond a single battlefield.

For now, the IRGC’s claim adds to the mounting tension surrounding the conflict and raises the prospect of further retaliatory action if the situation continues to deteriorate.
