Saints Complete Permanent Signing of Cyle Larin
Southampton Football Club has confirmed the permanent signing of striker Cyle Larin after a successful loan spell from RCD Mallorca, with the Canadian international committing his future to St Mary’s on 5 June 2026.
The 31-year-old arrived in January and made an immediate impact, scoring with his first touch in a Southampton shirt on his debut against Watford. Coming off the bench, he netted the only goal of the match just seconds after entering the field, quickly winning over supporters and establishing himself as a key attacking option for the Saints.
Larin went on to score eight goals in 16 Sky Bet Championship appearances, producing an impressive strike rate of one goal every 107 minutes in league play. Across all competitions, he finished his loan spell with nine goals in 22 matches, despite starting only 12 of those games. His contribution also included a goal on his Emirates FA Cup debut, helping Southampton reach the semi-finals of the competition during a season that marked the 50th anniversary of the club’s famous Wembley triumph in 1976.
The Canada international, who has earned 89 caps for his country, now looks ahead to a major summer on the international stage as Canada prepares to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside the United States and Mexico.
Southampton have handed Larin a two-year contract with an option for an additional year, which could keep him at the club until 2029. The move gives the club long-term stability in attack and rewards a player who made a strong impression in a short time.
Larin said he was delighted to return permanently, describing the welcome he received from the club’s staff and players as a major factor in his decision. He said the positive start to life at Southampton, including his debut goal, helped him connect quickly with the team and reinforced his desire to continue at the club.
Group Technical Director Johannes Spors praised the fit between the player and the club, saying Larin complemented Southampton’s attacking options very well. He also noted that Larin was not required to make the switch permanently under the terms of his loan agreement, but chose to stay after attracting interest from other clubs. Spors said that decision demonstrated Larin’s commitment to helping Southampton pursue its objectives.
The permanent transfer marks another important step for Southampton as they build for the future, while Larin’s arrival on a full-time basis adds proven experience, goals and versatility to the squad. His impact in the second half of the season has turned a short-term loan into a long-term commitment, with both the club and player now looking ahead to the next phase of their partnership.
