Love Island UK’s George Knight Breaks Silence After Sudden Villa Exit, Says “Family Comes First”

George Knight, a contestant on Love Island UK Season 13, has explained why he left the reality dating series just days after entering the villa. In an Instagram post, Knight said his departure was motivated by a family matter, writing that “family comes first, always” and that he left the Mallorca villa “in order to be with my family.” He added that, out of respect for his family, he did not want to share further details about what happened.
Knight also thanked viewers for their support and kind messages, saying the response meant a great deal to him. ITV, the broadcaster and producer behind Love Island UK, has not publicly commented on the reason for his exit.
The 28-year-old professional footballer from Winchester arrived on the show as a bombshell on Day 1 alongside Yasmin. The pair were introduced by host Maya Jama outside the villa as part of a twist. They spent a day with the Islanders before being tasked with choosing one contestant each to dump from the villa after 24 hours. The decision was said to have been difficult for both new arrivals, but Knight appeared especially affected when he delivered the news to the other Islanders.
Before joining the show, Knight said he was not looking to create drama. In a pre-show statement, he described himself as naturally competitive and said that while he did not “seek drama,” he expected some friction to come with the process of finding a connection in the villa. He added that if something stood in his way, he would want to “put my best foot forward.”
Knight’s brief stint has drawn attention because of how quickly it ended after his arrival in the Mallorca-set villa. His post suggests the exit was not related to the show’s storyline, but rather to a personal family situation that required him to leave immediately.
Love Island UK Season 13 continues to air nightly on ITV2 and ITVX in the UK. In the United States, the series is available to stream on Hulu.
