Tottenham sign Andy Robertson on free transfer from Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur have signed Scotland captain Andy Robertson on a free transfer after his departure from Liverpool. The 32-year-old left-back, whose exit from Anfield had already been announced, will join Spurs on 1 July when his contract expires. The move comes after Tottenham previously tried to secure Robertson during the January transfer window, with a deal between the clubs later collapsing when Liverpool were unable to bring Kostas Tsimikas back from his loan at Roma.

Robertson arrives at Spurs with a strong reputation built over eight years at Liverpool, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders. Since joining from Hull City in 2017, he made 378 appearances for the Reds and helped them win two Premier League titles, the Champions League, two League Cups and the FA Cup. He also became a key figure for Scotland, earning 92 caps and leading his national team.

Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi said Robertson’s experience, leadership and mentality will be valuable to the squad both on and off the pitch. He described the defender as a proven winner at the highest level who can make a major contribution to the club’s ambitions.

Spurs finished the season by securing Premier League survival on the final day with a win over Everton, adding urgency to their summer rebuilding plans. The club’s sporting director Johan Lange said Robertson’s quality and character have been clear throughout a career filled with major honours, and said his professionalism will help develop the squad.

The signing gives Tottenham an experienced left-back with extensive top-level and international experience as they look to strengthen ahead of the new season. Robertson is also expected to add further leadership to a team aiming to return to sustained success.
