New Claims Paint Troubling Picture of Jason Sudeikis on Set After Hannah Waddingham’s “Love-Hate” Comment
Jason Sudeikis is facing renewed scrutiny over his role behind the scenes of Ted Lasso after comments from co-star Hannah Waddingham sparked fresh claims about his working style. Waddingham recently described having a “love-hate relationship” with Sudeikis because he reportedly rewrites scenes at the last minute. That remark has prompted insiders to allege that his perfectionist, highly hands-on approach has long made him difficult to work with, even as the Apple TV+ comedy became widely praised for its warmth, optimism, and feel-good tone.
According to the claims, the atmosphere on the Ted Lasso set was not always as cheerful as the show’s image suggested. Sources say Sudeikis developed a reputation in Hollywood for being extremely demanding and for constantly pushing for changes until scenes met his standards. One insider alleged that many people in the industry have a “love-hate relationship” with him because of this behavior. Another source said the set could become stressful because nothing ever seemed good enough, no matter how much effort had already gone into the work.
The criticism is especially notable because Ted Lasso emerged during the pandemic as one of television’s most beloved series, with Sudeikis becoming a major star and earning multiple Emmy Awards. But reports from the show’s third season suggested that production was complicated by major rewrites and delays. Filming reportedly began later than planned, scripts continued to change during production, and the budget allegedly rose significantly above estimates. At the time, Sudeikis had also suggested the third season might be the last.
The new allegations also paint Sudeikis as someone who prefers to work strictly on his own terms. Insiders say he is highly selective about the projects he takes on, avoids unpaid promotional obligations, and dislikes the public-facing side of fame such as red carpets and press events. That reported attitude, combined with his reputation for micromanaging, has fueled the perception that he values control and creative precision above convenience or routine industry expectations.
Even so, the reports suggest that tensions on set have not turned into a major crisis. Sources say Waddingham and Sudeikis continue to work together and that while she may find his constant changes frustrating, she still respects their partnership. Other cast and crew members reportedly understand the pressure that comes with his involved style and have adapted because of the show’s enormous success.
Sudeikis’ rise in fame has also coincided with public attention on his personal life. Before Ted Lasso premiered in 2020, he was best known for Saturday Night Live and his relationship with actress Olivia Wilde. As his career reached new heights, his breakup with Wilde and their later custody dispute over their children drew widespread media coverage. Despite the controversy, Sudeikis remains one of television’s most recognizable figures, and the renewed claims are adding a more complicated layer to the legacy of the series that made him a household name.
