Indore Records Coldest June Night in Six Years as Pleasant Weather Continues

Indore experienced an unusually cool start to June after pre-monsoon showers and strong winds lowered the minimum temperature to 18.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday night, making it the coldest June night in the city in the past six years. The reading was only 0.2 degrees above the six-year record of 18.4 degrees Celsius set on June 4, 2020.

The change in weather came as the city moved out of Nautapa, the period traditionally associated with extreme summer heat in central India. Instead of intense heat, Indore saw rain and gusty winds in the evening and late-night hours, bringing a sharp shift in conditions. The airport observatory recorded 0.4 inches of rainfall, while the maximum temperature remained at 38.5 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature stood about seven degrees below the seasonal average, giving residents a rare sense of relief in a month usually known for oppressive heat. Several areas of the city also reported dust storms followed by rain. Wind speeds reached 81 kilometres per hour during the weather activity, adding to the dramatic drop in temperature and easing the heat and humidity that had built up during the day.

Meteorological officials said the cooling was caused by active pre-monsoon systems affecting the region over the past several days. These systems have brought repeated spells of rain, thunderstorms and strong winds, preventing temperatures from rising sharply and keeping weather conditions more comfortable than usual for early June.

The weather department has predicted continued cloud cover, rain and gusty winds over the next few days. Because of this, officials said there is little chance of a significant rise in temperature in the immediate future. If the rain activity continues, both daytime and nighttime temperatures may fall further, extending the spell of relief from summer heat.

For residents of Indore, the unexpected weather has created an unusually pleasant beginning to June, with cool nights, rain-bearing clouds and strong winds replacing the intense heat typically associated with this time of year.
