Hadestown Announces First UK and Ireland Tour

The West End production of Anaïs Mitchell’s award-winning musical Hadestown will embark on its first United Kingdom tour, with additional dates also planned for Ireland. The touring production will begin at Curve in Leicester on 19 February 2027, with further venues across the country to be announced, along with a spell in Dublin. Casting for the tour has not yet been revealed.
Hadestown first gained major recognition during its run at the National Theatre before transferring to the West End, where it went on to win eight Tony Awards in 2019, including Best Musical. The production also received two WhatsOnStage Awards, including Best Supporting Performer in a Musical for Melanie La Barrie and Best Musical Direction/Supervision. The show remains in production at the Lyric Theatre in London while preparations for the tour continue.
Producer Mara Isaacs said the team is excited to bring Hadestown to audiences across the UK and Ireland, describing the musical as a production that has already moved and captivated audiences in London and internationally. She highlighted Mitchell’s score and the story’s focus on love and hope in the face of impossible odds, calling it a theatrical experience that stays with audiences long after the performance ends.
Mitchell said she is thrilled that Hadestown will tour the UK and Ireland, noting that the West End casts have shown the songs work especially well with local accents and speech patterns. She said the creative team looks forward to bringing the story and music to new audiences and discovering fresh responses to the production in different cities.
The musical blends modern American folk music with New Orleans jazz to retell the Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice, alongside the figures of King Hades and Persephone. Since its London run, Hadestown has built a strong reputation for its distinctive score, atmospheric storytelling, and emotionally resonant take on classical mythology. The upcoming tour marks a major new chapter for the production as it expands beyond London for the first time in the UK.
