Will Friedle and Danielle Fishel Open Up About Ben Savage Drama

Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle are expressing hope for a reconciliation with their former Boy Meets World costar Ben Savage, saying they remain open to reconnecting despite years of distance. Friedle, who played Eric Matthews on the longtime ABC sitcom, said in a June 3 interview with People that the separation has been difficult and that he still wants to reach out and talk to Savage. He described the situation as painful, adding that he has not given up on his friend and hopes Savage will return to their lives one day.
Fishel shared a similar feeling, saying she likes to imagine Savage in his new chapter as a husband and father. Savage reportedly welcomed a daughter with his wife, Tessa Angermeier, in November 2025. Fishel said she had previously spoken with Savage about his hope of becoming a father someday, and that it saddens her not to know what is happening in his life now, including the milestones of parenthood.
At the same time, Fishel said she has reached a place of understanding about Savage’s choice not to revisit their shared Boy Meets World past. She acknowledged that some people do not want to discuss uncomfortable truths, while noting that she, Friedle, and their fellow former castmate Rider Strong were willing to explore those topics when they launched the Pod Meets World podcast in 2022.
The podcast brought the three former stars back together to reflect on the show, which aired from 1993 to 2000 and became a family sitcom favorite during its seven-season run on ABC. Savage was reportedly in talks to join the podcast early on, but ultimately stepped away from the project. By 2023, Fishel, Friedle, and Strong said Savage had effectively disappeared from their lives, though Friedle emphasized at the time that there had been no fight or bitter breakup.
Boy Meets World followed Cory Matthews, played by Savage, from childhood into young adulthood, along with his family, friends, and teacher Mr. Feeny. The show remains a nostalgic touchstone for many fans, and the cast’s continued reflections have kept interest in its legacy alive. Fishel and Friedle’s latest comments suggest that, even after years of silence, they still hold out hope that Savage may one day rejoin their circle.
