Leonardo Jardim-Backed Defender Set to Leave Cruzeiro for European Club

Janderson is set to leave Cruzeiro and continue his career at Moreirense in Portugal, after falling out of the plans of coach Artur Jorge. The 20-year-old center back, who was originally launched by Leonardo Jardim in 2025, has an active contract with Cruzeiro until February 2029 but will terminate that agreement in order to sign permanently with the Portuguese club.
The deal was finalized over the past few days. According to the report, the transfer will not involve a fee, and the player’s economic rights will be shared between Moreirense, Cruzeiro, and Janderson himself. This type of arrangement has recently been used by Cruzeiro in other departures, including Fernando to Santa Clara in Portugal, Jhosefer to ABC, and João Pedro to Londrina.
Moving to Moreirense will give Janderson a greater international platform early in his career. The club is part of the Black Knights Football multi-club network, which also includes Lorient in France, Bournemouth in England, and Orlando City in the United States. Moreirense finished eighth in the most recent Portuguese league season, making it a stable destination for the Brazilian defender as he looks to rebuild momentum.
Janderson’s time at Cruzeiro began with the club’s under-20 squad after he had already made his professional debut with Fluminense-PI. He later earned a chance with Cruzeiro’s first team under Leonardo Jardim and appeared in the victory over Vasco in last year’s Brazilian Championship. That opportunity marked one of the key moments of his progression at the club.
However, his development was interrupted by a serious knee injury in May of last year. During training, Janderson suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tear, which required surgery and significantly slowed his rise. The injury limited his continuity and affected his place in the squad, contributing to the decision to move on.
The transfer, first reported by ge and confirmed by Itatiaia, reflects Cruzeiro’s recent strategy of restructuring its roster through negotiated exits and shared rights agreements. For Janderson, the move represents a chance to restart his career in Europe and gain more visibility within a network that connects clubs across several major leagues.
If successful, the switch to Moreirense could help the young defender recover from his injury setbacks and reestablish himself in a competitive environment.
