Stade Toulousain: Patrice Collazo Rejects Talk of His Hooker’s Headbutt After First-Leg Clash

The first meeting between Stade Toulousain and Racing on November 29, 2025 at Ernest-Wallon was remembered not only for Toulouse’s 48-24 win, but for a major disciplinary incident involving Racing hooker Janick Tarrit. Just before halftime, after Racing scrum-half Léo Carbonneau had already kicked the ball into touch to end the first period, Tarrit headbutted Toulouse second row Efrain Elias in the chest. The action was reviewed by the video officials, and Tarrit was sent off.

The red card changed the course of the match. Toulouse received a penalty from the incident and quickly turned it into a try scored by Elias himself, extending the lead to 15-3. Racing then had to play the entire second half with 14 men, and Toulouse went on to secure a wide victory and an offensive bonus point. The game also featured emotional moments for Toulouse supporters, including the farewell of Pita Ahki and the return of Antoine Dupont, but Tarrit’s dismissal became the most controversial talking point.

Racing sporting director Patrice Collazo reacted strongly afterward, saying that while coaches can prepare tactics and anticipate opponents, they cannot plan for “stupidity.” He made clear that Tarrit’s behavior was unacceptable because it endangered the team, disrupted its momentum, and destroyed the week’s preparation. His comments underlined how damaging the incident was seen inside Racing.

Efrain Elias later described the episode as surprising and difficult to understand. He said he had already stopped playing after the ruck and did not expect any contact because the ball had moved to the other side. From his perspective, Tarrit’s reaction made little sense, although he downplayed the confrontation and said such moments are part of the game. He also said he had not spoken about the match with the Racing player before the incident.

Tarrit was initially handed a 10-week suspension for the headbutt before the punishment was reduced to five weeks. With the two teams set to meet again on Saturday evening, the incident still hangs over the rivalry and adds extra tension to the upcoming clash. The return fixture gives both sides another chance to define the contest on the field rather than through disciplinary controversy.
