Jet2 Issues Updated Travel Rules for Passengers Visiting Spain, Greece, France, Turkey and Portugal

Jet2 is reminding holidaymakers to check entry rules before flying to popular European destinations this summer, including Spain, France, Greece, Portugal and Turkey, as requirements can vary depending on nationality and travel document type. The airline says travellers should review the latest guidance on the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office website before departure, especially if they do not hold a full British Citizen or EU passport.

The reminder comes as the European Union’s new Entry/Exit System came into effect on 12 October 2025 for British nationals travelling to Schengen-area countries. The system applies across destinations including France, Greece, Portugal and Spain, as well as many other European countries. Jet2 says passengers may be subject to a digital check on arrival and departure, with no cost and nothing to complete before travelling, but warns that queues at border control and at return departure points may be longer than usual.

For France and Greece, Jet2 states that visa-free travel is permitted for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The same rule applies to mainland Portugal, and to Spain, including the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands. Jet2 says there are no additional Foreign Office requirements for Spain at the time of publication, but travellers are still advised to confirm the latest guidance before they fly.

Portugal has one extra rule for some under-18s. Young people travelling to or from Portugal, including Madeira, without a parent or legal guardian may need a signed letter of authorisation. In some cases, the document may need to be legally certified. Jet2 says a form is available to download and should be presented at the airport if required, with further details available from the Portuguese government.

For Turkey, Jet2 says visa-free entry is also allowed for up to 90 days in a 180-day period, but passengers must ensure their passport is valid for at least 150 days from the date of arrival. The EU’s Entry/Exit System does not apply to Turkey.

Jet2 is urging customers to verify the latest travel requirements shortly before departure, as rules can change and may differ by destination, nationality and passport type. The airline says the most reliable source for up-to-date information is the Jet2 website, alongside official government travel advice.
