Washington man charged with double murder
Luis Miguel Huitron Campos, 25, is accused of killing his father, Oliverio Huitron-Rosalez, 64, and his brother, Alejandro Huitron Campos, 31, in a case that has deeply shaken the Gig Harbor, Washington, community. Authorities say the two men were found dead inside the family’s burning home after a fire on April 8, 2023, and investigators later concluded the blaze may have been intentionally set to conceal the killings.
According to the allegations, both victims suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head. Medical findings indicated that Oliverio was still alive when the fire began, a detail that intensified the horror of the case and suggested the fire may have been used to destroy evidence after the shootings. Fire crews discovered the bodies while responding to the blaze, launching a homicide and arson investigation that quickly drew wide attention.
Police and investigators say several pieces of evidence linked Luis to the scene. Cell phone data reportedly placed him near the home at the time of the fire, and shell casings recovered from the property were said to match a firearm he owned. The case grew more suspicious after relatives said Luis did not appear at memorial services for his father and brother and seemed to have disappeared in the days that followed.
Luis was later taken into custody by a SWAT team and charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated murder and one count of first-degree arson. He pleaded not guilty on May 21 and is being held on $5 million bond. Court records and public statements have not yet clearly identified his legal representation.
The case has also raised questions about possible family conflict and financial motives. Reports suggest investigators are looking into whether disagreements over money, including retirement savings, may have played a role. While no motive has been confirmed in court, the allegations point to a family tragedy marked by violence, alleged betrayal, and an apparent attempt to cover up the deaths with fire.
As the legal process moves forward, the Huitron family case remains under close scrutiny. The investigation continues to focus on forensic evidence, digital records, and the circumstances surrounding the fire, while the community waits for more answers in a disturbing case that has left two family members dead and a third facing life-altering criminal charges.
