US Air Force B-52 Bomber Crashes at Edwards Air Force Base in California, Base Says

A United States Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff Monday morning at Edwards Air Force Base, north of Los Angeles, the base said in a social media post. Edwards Air Force Base said the aircraft went down on the airfield at 11:20 a.m. and that emergency crews responded immediately to the scene. The base said the situation was ongoing.

Authorities have not yet released details about the cause of the crash. It was also not immediately clear whether anyone was injured in the incident. CNN said it had reached out to the base for more information.

Edwards Air Force Base is located about 100 miles north of Los Angeles and is one of the U.S. Air Force’s major test and training installations. The crash involved a B-52 Stratofortress, a long-range heavy bomber that has been in service for decades and remains an important part of the Air Force fleet.

The incident occurred shortly after takeoff, but officials have not provided further information about the flight, the number of people on board, or the condition of the aircraft after the crash. Emergency response personnel were seen handling the scene as the base continued to assess the situation.

The event is still developing, and military officials are expected to release more information as it becomes available. For now, the base has confirmed only that the crash happened on Edwards Air Force Base and that response teams are actively involved.
