Spurs News: Devin Vassell Taunts Chet Holmgren After Block in Game 6

The San Antonio Spurs took control early in Game 6 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, building momentum at home with a fast start from Victor Wembanyama. The young star energized the crowd by scoring eight points in the opening minutes, setting the tone for a must-win game as San Antonio tried to avoid elimination and force a Game 7 in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City answered with steady offense from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and contributions from the Thunder’s deep rotation, keeping the matchup close throughout the first half. The Thunder remained within striking distance despite San Antonio’s early burst, showing the balance and resilience that has defined their postseason run.
Devin Vassell played a major role for the Spurs in the first half, knocking down three three-pointers and helping San Antonio maintain its lead. Vassell also made a defensive highlight late in the half when he blocked Chet Holmgren at the rim. The play added intensity to an already physical game, and Vassell appeared to let Holmgren know about it afterward, pushing him after the block and exchanging words during a dead-ball sequence.
At halftime, the Spurs led 60-53. Wembanyama was the dominant player on the floor for San Antonio, finishing the first half with 22 points, six rebounds and two steals while shooting 9-of-16 from the field. His scoring touch, activity on defense and ability to create early separation gave the Spurs an important edge entering the second half.
Rookie guard Dylan Harper also provided a strong lift off the bench for San Antonio, scoring 12 points in the first half on 5-of-6 shooting. His efficiency gave the Spurs additional scoring support beyond their starters and helped sustain the team’s advantage.
For Oklahoma City, Cason Wallace led the way in the first half with 11 points, two rebounds and two steals while making all four of his shots and hitting three three-pointers. Gilgeous-Alexander added 10 points and four assists, continuing to steady the Thunder’s offense as they worked to stay close in a hostile road environment.
With the Spurs leading at halftime, Game 6 remained finely balanced and carried major stakes. A San Antonio victory would force a decisive Game 7 back in Oklahoma City, while a Thunder comeback would end the series and send Oklahoma City forward. The first half featured strong individual performances, playoff intensity and a tense atmosphere as both teams fought to keep their season alive.
