Southampton Announce Death of Former Academy Player Victor Udoh

Southampton FC and Royal Antwerp have announced the death of former academy player Victor Udoh, who has died at the age of 21.

Udoh spent six months with Southampton’s academy from February 2025 and made eight appearances for the club’s under-21 team in Premier League 2. The Nigerian left-winger later left the south coast club in September and joined Czech second-tier side Ceske Budejovice.

Before his time in England, Udoh was part of Royal Antwerp’s academy in Belgium. He joined the club’s youth setup in 2023, where he featured regularly for the Young Reds, scoring 12 goals in 27 matches. His progress earned him a first-team debut in the same season, and he went on to make 28 senior appearances for Antwerp.

Southampton paid tribute on X, saying the club was “devastated” by the tragic passing of the former player and extended its thoughts to his loved ones during what it described as an extremely difficult time.

Royal Antwerp also expressed deep sadness over the news. The Belgian club said it had learned with “great dismay” of Udoh’s passing and sent condolences to his family, friends and loved ones, wishing them strength, support and warmth in this difficult period.

Udoh’s death has prompted tributes from both clubs that played a key role in his development, reflecting the impact he made during his short career. Known for his pace and attacking ability on the left wing, he moved through youth football in Belgium before continuing his career in England and then the Czech Republic.
