Seahawks Guard Christian Haynes Appears Stuck in a Tough Roster Void
The Seattle Seahawks’ interior offensive line is in flux as the team evaluates several young players and possible offseason moves. Backup center Olu Oluwatimi has been mentioned in trade discussions, while Jalen Sundell and Grey Zabel are expected to take on larger roles in 2026. At right guard, Anthony Bradford is entering a crucial contract year, and the Seahawks also added former Iowa guard Beau Stephens in the 2026 NFL Draft. Stephens is viewed by some as a player who could challenge Bradford for the starting job or eventually replace him in 2027.
That situation leaves Christian Haynes in an uncertain position. The 2024 third-round pick was initially seen as a potential long-term answer at right guard, but he has not developed into the starter-level player the Seahawks hoped for. With Stephens now in the mix, Haynes’ path to a meaningful role has become even narrower.
Haynes has had multiple opportunities to show he can be part of Seattle’s future, but he has not taken enough advantage of them. As a result, he is increasingly viewed as one of the weaker spots in an otherwise strong recent draft record for general manager John Schneider. The former UConn lineman still has a good chance to remain on the Seahawks’ 53-man roster, but his roster spot may not be secure if the team chooses to make changes.
A trade is also possible if Seattle decides Haynes no longer fits its long-term plans. If Oluwatimi is moved instead, Haynes could potentially be cross-trained at center and serve as the backup snapper behind Sundell. Even then, his role would be limited.
For now, Haynes appears stuck between positions and opportunities. Seattle has several interior offensive linemen competing for future snaps, but Haynes is not clearly ahead of anyone in that group. With the Seahawks continuing to reshape the unit, his future on the roster looks increasingly uncertain, and he may be the player left without a clear place in the team’s plans.
