Patrick Mahomes Signs Historic Chiefs Deal Worth Over $500 Million, Setting a New Record

The Kansas City Chiefs have secured Patrick Mahomes with a contract extension that will keep the star quarterback in Kansas City through the 2033 season. According to ESPN, the two-year addition to his deal brings the total value to $504.75 million, making it the first NFL contract worth more than half a billion dollars. The agreement was finalized on Wednesday, June 10, by Equity Sports CEO Chris Cabott, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach, and the team’s front office.
The revised contract includes $239.05 million in new money and covers the years 2026 through 2033. ESPN reported that the first four years of the extension are guaranteed at signing, while the full $504.75 million becomes guaranteed through contract mechanisms. Mahomes could earn as much as $522.25 million if incentives and escalators are reached. Beginning in 2027, when the new money takes effect, the deal will average $64 million per year, which sets a new NFL record for average annual value.
Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt praised Mahomes in a statement, calling him one of the most iconic and beloved sports figures of all time. Hunt said Mahomes has helped lead the franchise to five Super Bowl appearances and three championships, while also raising the Chiefs’ profile nationally and internationally. He added that Mahomes has been a strong role model in the community and described him as both a generational talent and an elite human being.
Mahomes’ extension comes during a period in which he has also dealt with injury recovery. Earlier this year, the quarterback underwent surgery after tearing the ACL in his left knee during a game against the Chargers. An update on his condition was reported at the start of the year.
The new contract reinforces Mahomes’ status as the face of the Chiefs and one of the most significant players in modern NFL history. Since joining Kansas City, he has transformed the franchise into a consistent championship contender and helped turn the team into one of the league’s most recognizable brands. The extension ensures that the Chiefs will continue building around him for the long term as they pursue more titles and further success.
Mahomes’ record-setting agreement also raises the bar for quarterback contracts across the NFL. By surpassing every previous deal in both total value and annual average, it reflects the growing financial value of elite franchise quarterbacks and the importance teams place on securing long-term stability at the position. For Kansas City, the move locks in a proven leader who has already delivered sustained success and remains central to the team’s future plans.
