Pakistani Cricketer Maaz Sadaqat Suffers Horrific Head Injury During Pakistan vs Australia 3rd ODI, Forced to Leave the Field

Pakistan and Australia played the third and final ODI of their three-match series on Thursday, June 4, at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, with Australia captain Josh Inglis winning the toss and choosing to bat first. That meant Pakistan took the field as the bowling side in the decisive match of the series.
The biggest moment of concern came during Australia’s innings when young Pakistan opener Majeed Sadakat suffered a serious injury while fielding. The incident happened in the 10th over, when Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne played a shot toward square leg off Pakistan spinner Arafat Minhas. As the ball raced toward the boundary, Sadakat sprinted at full speed to stop it and made a brave athletic effort to keep it in play.
Although he successfully prevented the ball from crossing the rope, Sadakat lost his balance in the process. His head struck the ground heavily, and his momentum carried him into the advertising boards and fencing near the boundary. The impact appeared severe, and he fell to the ground immediately, unable to get up for several moments. The atmosphere in the stadium quickly shifted from competitive energy to concern as players and spectators realized the seriousness of the situation.
Pakistan teammate Shamil Hussain immediately signaled for medical assistance. The physio and doctors rushed onto the field and began first aid treatment. After several minutes of attention and evaluation, Sadakat was helped off the ground with support from the medical staff. His condition prompted visible worry among players on both sides, while fans in the stands watched anxiously.
The injury added to a difficult series for the 21-year-old batter, who had already struggled badly with the bat against Australia. In the first ODI, he scored only eight runs off 14 deliveries. In the second match, he was dismissed without scoring. The latest setback could further complicate his situation if the injury keeps him out of action.
As of now, Pakistan team management has not issued any official statement on the extent of the injury. However, because the blow involved the head, the medical staff is monitoring him closely. If he is diagnosed with a concussion or another significant injury, he could miss future matches as well.
Pakistan and their supporters will be hoping the injury is not serious and that the young opener makes a quick recovery. The frightening collision briefly overshadowed the cricket and turned attention toward Sadakat’s health and safety.
Australia’s playing XI included Alex Carey, Matthew Short, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Matthew Renshaw, Cooper Connolly, Oliver Peake, Nathan Ellis, Matthew Kuhnemann, and Adam Zampa. Pakistan’s XI featured Sahibzada Farhan, Majeed Sadakat, Babar Azam, Ghazi Gori, Arafat Minhas, Salman Agha, Abdul Samad, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Abrar Ahmed.
